Jan Smit
Jan Smit was born on December 31st 1985 in Volendam, a small village north of Amsterdam. From his childhood on, Jan wanted to be a singer. He joined a choir when he was only six years old. Four years later, he was discovered by the famous Dutch band BZN and they joined up for a song on an album of BZN, which became a huge success.

In 1997 Jan Smit got his first solo success with the hitsingle "Ik zing dit lied voor jou alleen" (I sing this song only for you). He then was only 11 years old, and because of his age, he then was known as Jantje Smit, which means 'little Jan'. 
His first single not only reached the top position in the charts, it entered the charts at that position which had not happened for nearly 30 years! In the following two years, Jantje Smit had six more hits. But then, although almost each year a new album was released, it became relatively silent until the year 2005. In that year Jantje returned in the spotlights as Jan, and he was obviously more mature and adult compared to his early years.

The 'come-back' of Jan Smit was accompanied by a reality-soap on Dutch television. This contributed without a doubt to the revival of his success. Almost 10 years after his first number one hit, he reached the top of the charts again. And again, and again...

The song "Als de morgen is gekomen" was released in august 2006 and he already topped the charts two weeks later. The song was the best selling single for five weeks in a row and it also was one of the ten biggest hits of last year.
