Biography of Rosa Negra

Rosa Negra (Dark Rose) is the name of a new group formed to present a different variation of Fado, the Portuguese national song.

This group is composed by 8 elements: a singer (Carmo), a piano and accordion player (Rui Filipe), a celo player (Emidio Coutinho), a darboukas player (Baltazar Molina), a trompet player (Joao Rocha) and three violin players (Antonio Figueiredo, Paula Pestana and Witold Dziuba).

Fado Ladino is the tittle of their first album, the whole idea behind it was “to make something different from Fado, not only the type of introspective song you listen to sitting down, but also the kind of music that might even make you dance”. They have achieved this by merging Fado with oriental influences.
It has been up until now highly praised by music critics and it has been very warmly welcomed in every single public presentation.
“Fado ladino”, the song that gives the tittle to the album, was choosen by the Portuguese fans among 62 songs submitted to the national final of the OGAE Song Contest 2007.
